In-Person Spark Lab Summer Program

Summer 2022 Course Registration is now open!

Young boy in science lab.York University's Spark Lab Programs are week-long sessions designed for students in grades 9 to 12 who want more hands-on science. Using experiment-based learning, students explore physics, biology, chemistry and coding through lab work. Escape the traditional classroom and learn science by doing science.

The Spark Lab Program is an open-enrollment program. Registration can be completed online and is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Summer 2022 Schedule

Grade 9 to 10 Courses

Lab Fundamentals (Grade 9-12)

Date: July 4-8, 2022 || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425
Students will be introduced to many essential lab techniques covered in many first- and second-year university Biology and Chemistry courses! Students will get the opportunity to use laboratory tools such as micropipettes, a centrifuge, and gel electrophoresis apparatus, and more. Join us in Lab Fundamentals if you are interested in exploring a career in science!

Fundamentals of Astronomy

Date: July 11-15, 2022 || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425
Astronomy has captivated the human imagination for centuries, and we are closer to space than we’ve ever been before! Get some bright ideas with YorkU Observatory’s sun telescope while you observe and investigate sunspots and find out what it takes to be a rocket scientist by designing and building your own from scratch.

Forensic Science

Date: July 18-22, 2022 || August 2-5, 2022* || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425, Four-day courses marked with an asterisk (*): $355
Delve into the mind of an investigator by learning how to solve mysteries with our Forensic Science course. Students will get the opportunity to become Forensic Scientists by learning how to dust for fingerprints, examine blood splatter, analyze DNA, and more. Is there anything more satisfying then solving a mystery?

Animal Anatomy

Date: July 25-29, 2022 || August 8-12, 2022 || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425
Do you have what it takes to be a veterinarian? Join us as we explore Animal Anatomy from the inside out by investigating the visual pathways of different species, examine a mammalian digestive system and so much more. From animal development to dissections, Spark students will get the opportunity to explore this vast animal kingdom.

Grade 11 to 12 Courses

Catalytic Chemistry

Date: July 11-15, 2022 || August 8-12, 2022 || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425
Grab your lab coats and your goggles when you join us for Catalytic Chemistry! Students will explore the esterification process, learn about chemical equilibria, conduct chemiluminescence experiments, and more! From generating solar energy to gel electrophoresis, students will get the opportunity to investigate practical applications of chemistry in one of York University’s laboratories.

Human Anatomy

Date: July 18-22, 2022 || August 2-5, 2022* || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425, Four-day courses marked with an asterisk (*): $355
Join us in Human Anatomy as we explore the biological systems of the human body. Students will learn how organ systems interact with each other, develop an understanding of the medical field, and discuss the impact of diseases & disorders. Through dissections and scientific studies, students will investigate body systems including the circulatory, digestive, endocrine, nervous, and more.

MakerLab

Date: July 25-29, 2022 || Time: 9:30am to 3:30pm
Course Fee: $425
At MakerLab, students will get the opportunity to design, develop, and test a number of inventions! From catapults to box cars, students will learn how to build mechanical and electromechanical machines. Students will also be introduced to computer science through the use of Arduinos where they will design, code, and build robots such as a robotic prosthesis arm and a self-driving car. Join us a for a week of invention, discoveries, and more!

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made 21 calendar days prior to the start of the program are eligible for a full refund, minus a $120 administration fee per participant, per course.

Refunds will be given upon written notice of cancellation. No refunds will be made after the 21 calendar day deadline. No refunds will be given for days when a participant is absent and missed days cannot be made up.
