York Science Saturdays are STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs available for students in Grade 3-8. Join us for these multi-week programs as we explore topics in STEM through an engaging, interactive, and hands-on approach to learning.

Programs are separated into Junior (grades 3/4/5) and Senior (grades 6/7/8) sections, and will run during the following dates. Students may sign up for multiple programs or only one program at a time. Classes are limited to 20 students, so register early!

Junior - Science Variety Pack
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Soar into science with our Science Variety Pack! Build your own gliders and learn about flight, then delve into forensic science by solving a crime, and look deeper into the human body by examining x-rays and exploring the skeletal system.

Junior - Code with Kids! The Digital Brain
Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Delve into the mind of a computer with Code with Kids! The Digital Brain. Investigate binary numbers to create your own secret coded messages, code your own search and sort algorithm using Scratch, and introduce yourself to computer languages by developing your own Guess a Number game.

Light up your November with our Science Variety Pack! Create constellations that light up your life while exploring circuits 101, investigate the life cycle of plants as you build your own terrarium, and concoct the perfect bubble solution in the Unbreakable Bubble Chemistry Challenge!

Junior - Code with Kids! Computer Graphics
Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Join us at Code with Kids and you will get the opportunity to learn all about computer graphics. Students will learn about the physics of light while investigating how computers use pixels to change colour. By using Python’s turtle library and GameMaker’s built-in drag-and-drop coding language, students will design and control their own sprites in a game.

Senior Programs (Grades 6/7/8)

Senior - Code with Kids! The Digital Brain
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Explore the internal workings of a computer with The Digital Brain – Senior program. At this program, students will learn how computers make decisions and use information to manipulate binary numbers. By investigating Boolean Logic and using Boolean Operator Integrated Circuits, students will get the opportunity to create a physics ball simulation and build a basic Arithmetic Logic Unit.

Senior - Science Variety Pack
Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Explore the world of science! Design and build a solar-powered car, investigate and cure different diseases in the human body while examining human pathology samples, and learn about proper chemistry laboratory techniques by identifying hazards in the home and environment.

Senior - Code with Kids! Computer Graphics
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Discover the science of computer graphics by joining us at Code with Kids: Computer Graphics! Students will design their own animated games while investigating how computers represent colours with numbers and code. By exploring 2D animation and 3D Isometries, students will be able to control and animate sprites in their own game.

Senior - Science Variety Pack
Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm || Course Fee: $195.00 || Limited to 20 students
Navigate Mars by building a rover to survive the harsh terrain of another world, put on your thinking camp by building a brain model and practicing your brain surgery techniques, and become a pharmaceutical researcher by developing a new medication release system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child bring electronic devices?

Please note that we encourage students to leave all electronic game devices at home, as we are not responsible if they are lost. If your child carries a cell phone with them, we ask that it be put on vibrate during program hours.

Do you offer financial assistance?

We offer Financial Assistance for Science Engagement Programs, when funding is available. For more information, please click on the appropriate links or email explore@yorku.ca.

Bursary Policy               Bursary Application Form

What is your refund policy?

Cancellations made 21 calendar days prior to the start of the program are eligible for a full refund, minus a $75 administration fee per child, per course. Refunds will be given upon written notice of cancellation. No refunds will be made after the 21 calendar day deadline. No refunds will be given for days when a participant is absent and missed days cannot be made up.
